Ms. Bean - Leah, Stop acting like the boss of everything
Little Bee - (following pause) I cant be the boss Sarah, I'm a girl.
Ms.Bean - You can be the boss and be a girl Leah.
Little Bee - No. Because girls are Mommy's, and they don't like to work. Only Daddy's are the bosses.
Clearly - I need to watch what I say around the house.

Less then 2 hours after writing this post about Little Bee's kindness and sensitivity, she and I had 2 back to back conversations:
1) At my parents house:
BB - Mom, I don't want to go home
me - Why Leah? Do you want to stay here?
BB - I want you to leave, I am going to stay here.
me - Leah, we were going to spend the afternoon together having some special time.
BB - But, I don't want to be with you
me - Why?
BB - Because I don't like your face
2) 10 minutes later
Susie - Leah, did you have fun at your party yesterday?
BB - no
Me - No? what was your favorite part?
BB - Nothing
Me - Umm. What didn't you like?
BB - (after rolling eyes), I didn't like anything. I didn't like the food. I didn't like the decorations. I didn't like the balloons. (very long pause) I just like the presents.
I can tell, that 4, is going to be a Good Good time with Little Bee!

March 14 - 2009
Yesterday our Lovely Leah turned 4! It was a very busy day, but in the morning I had a few moments to reflect on how she has changed over the past year, and how she changed our family.
Yesterday as I watched her sleep, it occurred to me that Leah completes us. Her generosity and kind nature is grounding and she is a constant reminder to all of us that miracles come in many amazing packages. Her sense of humor keeps up on our does, and brings laughter into our hearts.
In many ways, Leah is your average American Girl. She is into Princesses, the color Pink (though now she is now leaning more toward Red), butterflies, and jewelry. She loves to run, laugh, play with chalk and climb up the slide. In other ways, she is years beyond her physical self. A friend of mine describes her as "someone who was her before", and I am not sure that is untrue. She loves biology, constellations, planets, and classical music. She also adores her sister more then life. Leah's sense of family and the meaning of the word, appears to have the depth most people don't achieve until they have their own children.
4 years ago today, I was staring into the runny eyes of a child, and wondering how she was going to fit into our world. I never thought that a simple presents would light up all of our lives the way she does.
Happy 4th Birthday Little Bee! Mom

Ms. Beans Homework
Last nights homework assignment was to write a letter to the Principle and tell her what you like about school:
Dear Dr. Zissios -
I like my school. I love my teachers Ms. Jackson and Ms. Youngman. I miss Ms. Dwyer and I am sorry she had to leave. Very sorry. I like Art. I like P.E. Its really fun to go to specials. I like to go out to recess and I like to play with my friends.
This year I have learned about money and counting pennies and dimes and Quarters and Nickles. I go on the computer almost every day. I learn how to read, that is what the computer is for. My favorite Special is Music. I get to sing new songs that I didn't know, like:
1) the Echo
2) Shadow Phobia
3. BFF
I really like my classroom. My favorite center is white board because I get to9 draw whatever I want. Sometimes I even go to the large white board, but we don't do that very often.
My friends are Ovie and Pierce. They are really funny. They play with me a lot and I chase them.
I really like my school and everybody there. Sometimes I am afraid of all of the new kids I see, but as long as I am with my friends I have nothing to worry about.
Love,
sarah
I, for one, would really like to attend Kindergarten classes.

Ms. Bean has a Dream ........................

As part of the Kindergarten discussion regarding Dr. Martin Luther King, the kids shared their dreams for our country. Ms Bean's dreams that all kids could be safe when they swim. Some would argue that her "dream" might not be as inclusive/meaningful as the original, but I suspect that her swim instructors might be equally as touched.

(Ms. Beans assignment was to Dictate an adventure that she had in the past, and tell us what she remembered. Here is the trip she took to the Baltimore Aquarium a year ago)
My first visit to the Aquarium
I went to the aquarium with mommy and the rest of my family. Leah, Grandma, Grandpa, Daddy, and Mommy were all there. On the way into the Aquarium, we saw a statue of shark teeth. When I first went in the door, I saw pictures of animals close up. They made me feel happy.
I saw the dolphin show. It was really cool. The dolphins did a lot of tricks and they even splashed a little. I saw sharks too! I wasn’t afraid. The sharks have big teeth. I ran around seeing all kinds of Sharks from the top to the bottom. I saw a jelly fish. The jelly fish looked like a shell, but when I saw the legs I knew that it was a Jelly fish. There were rainbow fish and black fish. There were tiny fish. I even saw puffins. I saw sting rays. Some were spotted, some were striped. I even saw a few crabs. The crabs had pink shells and purple shells. Some even had yellow shells.
My sister and my father saw an Octopus. I was too scared, so I didn’t go.
I saw some frogs. The frogs where red, blue and some were black.
After the Dolphin show, we can go under the Dolphin lake and see them behind the glass under water. During the Dolphin Show, we see a movie about taking care of the Dolphins.
Dolphins have a belly bottom just like us!
There is a place where you can touch real animals. I touched a snail where it was slimmed. They also taught me how to pick up a stingray without getting stung.
After our visit, we go to the gift shop. They have bouncy fish balls and Dolphins that are sparkly. Papa bought me a frog magnet.
I would like to go back soon!

25 Random things
You have either heard of the "25 Random Things about me", or, you have been living under a rock. I tried not to do it, and posted a letter in its place explaining that I am simply not an interesting individual. That didn't fly with my friends. Here is another attempt ............. XO D
1) I remember the first time that my husband spoke to me vividly, and it was 3 years before we met. He said hello at the local post office. I was new in town and hadn’t met many people. It was nice to have someone talk to me.
2) I absolutely hate rodents, especially rats. If I see one, I will never return to that location. It is for this reason that Tom convinced me that the thing in front of our Payne Street house was a Possum.
3) Tom and I were told that we would never have children naturally. Therefore, we will always consider Leah to be our “miracle child”.
4) Sarah was IVF, and it was a long, painful road to conception. The second that she was born, we knew that she was worth the wait.
5) I don’t like to work. It’s not the job, but the fact that is has to be done. Knowing that makes going to work easier.
6) My mother is my hero. She didn’t like to wok either.
7) My father is my very favorite person. I didn’t like him very much as a teen.
8) I am not a vegetarian, but have a fundamental problem with hunters/hunting. I don’t believe that people should enjoy the act of killing and destruction.
9) I can’t spell
10) I am the very best parallel parker you will ever meet. No idea why, because my driving leaves something to be desired.
11) I have loved the Washington Capitals for 28 years. Prior to the Caps, I was a Bruins Fan. I have NEVER been a Red Wings Fan
12) I don’t like the Redskins, even when they’re winning
13) I don’t like the Wizards, even when they’re loosing.
14) I call my kids “Bean” and “Bee”.
15) I feel guilty every single day for something related to my girls. Sometimes it is not spending enough time with them, or, not having enough patience, or not saying the right thing. I hope that one day they know I tried my very best and adore them every second.
16) I detest Okra.
17) I take pictures almost every single day. They don’t always get uploaded, but I take them.
18) My parents have always said that I can be counted on to say the exact wrong thing at the exact wrong time. I kind of like that trait.
19) At the age of 32, I tracked down my 5th grade teacher and asked him to change the grade on a science paper because his written justification didn’t support the loss of a ½ letter. He, visibly shaken, agreed. Then we got drunk and talked about people.
20) I am finding this a very uncomfortable exercise.
21) I really like face book. It makes me laugh every day. I have some pretty cool friends. I have also “de-friended” some really creepy people.
22) I can no longer just watch TV or just surf the internet. I must do them simultaneously.
23) I don’t like ground beef. You really never know what is ground into it.
24) I cant drink beer out of a bottle. I try, but I spill. If you don’t have a glass, I will settle for a can.
25) I have been very blessed with good lasting friends. My husband is my best friend.
